St Edward's Park Residents' Association
Why do we have a Residents' Association?
- St Edward's Park is a large and diverse estate. Some of it is run by a management
company and a managing agent called CPM. Some people on St Edward's Park pay a service
charge, either because they live in a communal building or because they live in an
area with communal grounds.
- Residents of Villa Road and Wall Lane Terrace don't pay the same charges but are
just as affected.
- The Residents' Association is a chance for everyone who lives on St Edward's Park
to get together and sort out issues affecting us.
How did the Residents' Association start?
- During the summer of 2006, a number of residents were unhappy about the way that
the managing agent - CPM - were looking after the grounds. They called a residents
meeting in the Rugby Club which led to a small group of residents called the Steering
Group to get together to tackle the immediate problems and design a Residents' Association.
- In November 2006, the Steering Group reported back and held an election of all residents.
Only 10 people put their names forward for a Committee with 11 places, so in the
end no election was necessary.
How does the Residents' Association work?
- The "rules" of the Residents' Association are set out in our Constitution, with the
terms of reference and annual goals providing the objectives we are aiming for.
- Everyone who lives on St Edward's Park is automatically a member of the Residents'
Association. There are no membership fees. Each household has one vote.
- A Committee has been formed to run the day-to-day affairs of the Association and
take decisions, but anyone can contribute to a project.
- General meetings of the Association will be called every so often to discuss major
issues facing residents.
- This website, regular emails, a newsletter and noticeboards are used to keep residents
informed of what is going on.
- When a Committee member resigns, a vacancy can be announced and someone can be "co-opted"
onto the Committee for the remaining term.
