Welcome to our website
St. Edward's Park is a thriving community created on the site of the former St. Edward’s Hospital in the village of Cheddleton on the edge of the Peak District in the Staffordshire Moorlands. Set in 122 acres of parkland there are a range of residences on the site (new build & refurbished) including apartments and detached properties.
The hospital was constructed at the end of the 19th century and was then known as the Cheddleton Asylum. The grounds were landscaped and hundreds of trees were planted that are now mature woodland and give the estate its unique character today. By 1999 the hospital had closed and soon afterwards Redrow Homes started to convert many of the former hospital buildings into apartments, and, together with Bryant, many new homes were also constructed.
The Asylum was a community in itself with its own bakery, butchers, vegetable gardens, sports ground and burial ground. There was an active social calendar for employees and patients. While the present community is very different, the Residents’ Association exists to represent everyone who lives here and to build a strong community spirit so that the estate continues to be a pleasant and enjoyable place to live.
The Association has a
constitution and an Annual General Meeting is held in April each year. It has been active in negotiating with the developers and their managing agents to make sure that they fulfil their obligations, secure improvements and arrange social activities.
The website aims to be as useful as possible to the residents. Please feel free to get in touch with any ideas for content, features or just to give general feedback.
